PRESSURE CONTROL EQUIPMENT

An ESP is a container, a pipe, a safety accessory (valve) or a pressure accessory (valve): – intended to contain a fluid under more or less dangerous pressure – fixed (not moved during the normal course of its operation) – mobile (operated elsewhere than at its filling location) – whose maximum admissible pressure (PS) is > 0.5 bar – whatever the material of the casing – identified by regulatory marking (plate, engraving, etc.) specific to each manufacturing regime and including the main characteristics of the equipment (PS, V, etc.)

– likely to explode

– simple pressure vessel (RPS):- simple construction and shape- intended to contain air or nitrogen- not intended to be subjected to flame- 0.5 < PS £ 30 bars- PS x V £ 10,000 bar-litres- example: compressor tank- transportable pressure equipment (ESPt):- volume £ 150 litres- used in particular to transport industrial and medical gases (example: liquefied petroleum gas cylinder)

Associated concepts – together:

ESP assembled by a manufacturer to form an integrated and functional whole (refrigeration systems, boilers, etc.) – fluid: gas, liquid or vapor in pure phase or in mixture – group 1 of “dangerous” fluids: (formerly) explosive, extremely flammable, easily flammable, flammable, very toxic, toxic, oxidizing – group 2 of fluids which are not in group 1: water vapor, compressed air, etc. – (limited) impact of the CLP regulation (CLP: classification, labeling and packaging) on fluid groups – maximum permissible pressure (PS): maximum pressure for which the equipment is designed, specified by the manufacturer (pressure relative to atmospheric pressure) – piping: – submission criteria according to fluid, PS, DN – to be distinguished from transport pipelines (multi-fluid order).

Where can you find ESPs ?

-almost everywhere-industrial environment: chemical industry, pharmaceutical laboratories, agri-food industry, quarries, processing industry (metals, wood, rubber, polymers, etc.), etc.- urban boiler rooms- car garages, service stations, etc.- hospitals, fire and rescue services, etc.- sports clubs (diving, shooting, etc.)- under the road surface (heat networks).
